The salar is the strangest and most beautiful place Camila has ever seen, a sea of salt at the roof of the world, and she has come to it broken open, having done a brave and terrible thing, walked out of her own wedding a week before it, to a good man she did not love enough, because she could not spend her life being not quite happy, and she has fled to the one place she has always dreamed of, the mirror of the sky, on the theory that a person who has just blown up her whole life should at least go and see the most beautiful thing in the world before she works out what is left.
