Handing Over the Keys is built around a simple, under taught truth: that the goal of building something well is, in the end, to be able to hand it over, and that handing over is a real skill, learnable and practisable, which most leaders never learn and therefore botch, at enormous cost, when the day comes. The book follows a founder named Mara as she learns, across ten chapters, to hand over the company she built, and uses her story and a cast of other cases, the clinger who cannot let go, the great delegator, the successor being handed to, to teach the whole art of the handover at every scale, from delegating a single task to passing on a whole enterprise.
