Copper Plus is a bright, propulsive, humane science fiction novel about the strangest gift ever given and the ordinary man who received it. Wes Carver runs a one van electrical business in an invented desert city. On a morning job in the hills he finds, on a sunlit ridge, a being that has no name in any language: tall, slender, luminous, its body half transparent like sunlight through water, light flaring softly around it. It regards him with something like curiosity, reaches out, and takes his hands in its own, and there is a moment of heat and brightness, and it is gone. Wes drives home shaken and picks up a coil of copper wire, and the wire changes. Tests in his garage, and then at a university laboratory under a materials scientist who does not believe him until her own instruments do, confirm the impossible: any copper he touches becomes a room temperature, any condition superconductor, carrying current with no loss and no heat.
