Nia is nine and likes things you can count. Theo is six and likes things you can jump in. The day their street's water pipe bursts and school closes early, Grandpa Bela, who was a ship's weather officer for forty years and keeps his old instruments on the windowsill like pets, tells them the most interesting sentence either of them has ever heard: there is no such thing as boring weather, there is only weather you have not collected yet. So begins the Weather Collectors' Club, founded that afternoon at the kitchen table, membership two children, one grandfather, and one dog who attends all meetings. The rules are short. A weather collector never complains about weather, because complaining about weather is complaining about your own collection arriving.
